On the first day of spring, few signs of the season can be found in our snow-covered landscape. But inside the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul, the temperature is tropical and vibrant colors speckle the glass rooms. A variety of plants and blooming flowers are displayed at the 98-year-old site, and they can be the perfect antidote for our winter-weary eyes.

What do a former runway model, a young man with cerebral palsy and a musher from Tennessee have in common? They're all part of the field this year competing in the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. Ten teams registered for the 373-mile marathon race, which runs from Duluth up the North Shore to the Gunflint Trail near the Canadian border and back. Thirty teams have registered for the mid-distance race.

The Minnesota high school hockey state tournaments, both girls and boys, are big events at the end of every winter. The girls tournament wrapped up at the end of February and the boys finished their play over the weekend.
