(AP) - The design and location for a memorial marking the Interstate 35W bridge disaster will become known on Monday, the same day officials reveal when the replacement span will open to traffic.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak plan to talk about a memorial that will honor the victims.
Thirteen people died and 145 were injured on August 1, 2007 when the major interstate bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River during rush hour.
Federal lawmakers rushed an emergency aid package through Congress, helping the state Transportation Department contract for a speedy replacement bridge. The new concrete bridge differs from the steel truss bridge that failed.
It is due to open months ahead of schedule.
