Tomorrow is the Minnesota fishing opener, the day when anglers around the state begin their annual pursuit of walleye and northern pike.

Gov. Pawlenty will be staying in the Twin Cities area this year. The Governor's Fishing Opener will take place on White Bear Lake.

Tom Dickson, author of "The Great Minnesota Fish Book," will be fishing on White Bear Lake on Saturday as well. But he tells Morning Edition host Cathy Wurzer that he doesn't care what kind of fish he catches.

Least Darter
The Least Darter is Minnesota's smallest fish. The species grows to only 1-1.5 inches long. The fish can be found in a growing number of waters throughout southern two-thirds of Minnesota.

Pumpkinseed
The Pumpkinseed is a colorful sunfish. It can be found in lakes and streams throughout Minnesota, although it is rare in the Arrowhead Region. Its name refers to its body shape, which resembles the shape of a pumpkin seed.
