The House has passed a bill to make it easier to dispose of unused medicines.
The bill would allow local law enforcement agencies to collect drugs and turn them over to companies that are licensed to transport hazardous waste.
Currently there's no hazardous waste incinerator in Minnesota, so the drugs need to be taken to Illinois.
Under existing collection programs, drugs have to the in the possession of law enforcement personnel all the way to the incinerator.
The measure is designed to keep prescription drugs away from young people, and to keep them out of the state's waters.
A similar bill is expected to pass in the Senate.
