After handing over campaign papers to Minnesota Secretary of State staff, Bachmann told reporters she thinks her history of speaking out against what she believes is excessive government spending positions her well for election to a third term.

"I've been going against the tide because I've been fighting the Obama administration on all of their out of control spending," Bachmann said. "This is what people don't like: They didn't like the bail out. I voted against that. People didn't like the trillion dollars in stimulus spending and I voted against that. People didn't like the huge government take over of health care and I voted against that also."

Bachmann is one of the more visible members of Congress because of her frequent media appearances and travels throughout the country speaking to conservative groups.

Democrats accuse Bachmann of neglecting her Minnesota constituents to curry favor with national audiences.

Two Democrats, State Sen. Tarryl Clark and Dr. Maureen Reed, are running in the August 10 primary for the Sixth District seat. Neither Clark nor Reed had filed yet for the seat as of Monday morning.
