Democrat Mark Dayton said Thursday that former President Bill Clinton will headline a fundraiser in New York City later this month to help Dayton pay for Minnesota's gubernatorial recount.
Dayton said the event will be held at the home of financier George Soros on December 13. Dayton said he also asked several Democrats to host a fundraiser for his gubernatorial campaign when he was in Washington earlier this week at the Democratic Governors Association's Winter Meetings.
"I made a number of requests," Dayton said. "I actually asked Harry Reid, Sen. Durbin and Sen. Schumer, and we'll be asking others including Sen. Franken and Sen. Klobuchar to host a fundraiser on December 15 in Washington."
Dayton spoke with reporters after he was briefed on the state's budget situation. He said he believes he's leading Republican Tom Emmer by 9,000 votes and is confident he'll be declared the winner once the recount is over. Emmer refused to answer any questions from reporters this morning after he was briefed on the state budget.
