Gov. Mark Dayton said Wednesday that he welcomed the spirit of a Republican proposal to divert Legacy funding from arts and cultural organizations to build the Vikings a new stadium. But the governor didn't endorse the idea.
"I appreciate those who are willing to come forward with ideas and proposals of what they would be for, rather than just sitting on the sidelines and carping about what they're against," he said.
Dayton also said he still planned to put forward his own recommendations for a stadium deal early next month.
He is planning a helicopter tour of the area Thursday to see the potential stadium sites for himself. He's also planning a meeting with legislative leaders on Friday, and says he's awaiting a formal written proposal from the Vikings in coming days.
