Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack filed his official paperwork Wednesday morning with the Minnesota Secretary of State to run for re-election.
Two years ago, Cravaack surprised people around the country when he defeated long-time DFL Rep. Jim Oberstar in the state's 8th Congressional District. This time around, Cravaack won't know who his opponent will be until after the DFL primary in August.
Cravaack said it's good that people are engaged and paying attention to the race.
"I know I'm one of the most targeted Republicans in the country," he said. "I mean you can't pick up a paper without seeing somewhere that, you know, I'm on one of the top 10 lists that the Democrats are taking a look at. And that's OK."
Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan, former Duluth City Council member Jeff Anderson and former State Sen. Tarryl Clark will face off in the DFL primary for the right to run against Cravaack in November.
