3-year-old boy attacked by dogs earlier this month dies

The Brooklyn Park toddler who was severely injured in a dog attack recently has died.  According to the family's fundraising site, 3-year-old Covil Allen died Monday. 

The attack occurred on July 19 in the backyard of a home. Police said adults at the scene tried to pull the dogs away until police arrived and fired at the dogs, killing one and injuring the other. 

Allen’s mother was also attacked and sustained injuries to her legs.

According to the organizer of the family’s fundraising effort, Allen’s heart was donated to another young child.   

The Brooklyn Park Police Department investigated the incident and will turn over its findings to county prosecutors, who may file charges.
