Confused Minnesota lilacs produce rare fall blooms
It’s not easy to trick flowers but Minnesota’s unusual weather has been great at convincing lilacs to rebloom for fall. One researcher at the University of Minnesota says it can happen and it’s nothing to worry about.

James Earl Jones, who overcame racial prejudice and a severe stutter to become a celebrated icon of stage and screen — eventually lending his deep, commanding voice to CNN, “The Lion King” and Darth Vader — has died. He was 93.

Prosecutors on Monday filed third-degree murder charges against Steven Frane Bailey of St. Louis Park, the alleged drunk driver in the Park Tavern crash. The new charges come in addition to two counts of vehicular homicide and nine counts of criminal vehicular operation that Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty filed last week.
HUGE Improv Theater, a Minneapolis comedy hub for nearly 20 years, to close in October
Due to financial challenges, HUGE Improv Theater in Minneapolis will close permanently at the end of October. The announcement comes less than a month after two leaders resigned amid concerns about diversity and inclusion.

A very warm and dry week

A shopping mall in the northern Twin Cities metro area was cleared and locked down Sunday after gunshots broke windows.  Six police departments, state troopers and the Anoka County sheriff's department responded to the shots that were fired outside Northtown Mall on Sunday afternoon. And the BCA is investigating a shooting at a Minneapolis apartment building over the weekend. Minneapolis police shot and injured a 40-year-old man they say was armed and terrorizing residents at the building. 
Dozens dead in Vietnam from Typhoon Yagi flooding, state media report
Typhoon Yagi was the strongest typhoon to hit Vietnam in decades, with winds up to 92 mph. The country’s meteorological agency warns continuing downpours could cause floods and landslides.
Neighbors startled awake by gunfire in Minneapolis apartment building; police say it could have been much worse
